The downtown shooter who left 5 people with non life threatening injuries was known to local Columbus and Russell County authorities, our findings show.

The downtown shooter, identified as Justin Tyran Roberts, opened fire and injured 5 within a span of 18 hours.

A man was shot at Courtyard Marriot on Whitewater Avenue in Phenix City. The second shooting left 3 people shot near the 1100 block of Broadway around 10PM. The third shooting occurred at Broadway and 4th Street in Columbus in the historic district where one person was shot.

In 2011, Roberts was arrested by Columbus law enforcement for the charges of battery, reckless conduct, and criminal trespass for an incident which occurred on June 10th, 2011.

In 2013, Roberts was arrested by Columbus law enforcement for the charge of criminal trespass for an incident which occurred on February 18th, 2013.

In 2013, Roberts was arrested by Columbus law enforcement for the charge of criminal damage to property in the 2nd degree for an incident which occurred on July 2nd, 2013.

In 2013, Roberts was arrested by Columbus law enforcement for the charges of receipt, possession, or transfer of a firearm by con..., theft by receiving stolen property, marijuana-possession of less than 1 ounce.

In 2014, Roberts was arrested by Columbus law enforcement for the charge of violation of probation.

Roberts disappeared off the criminal radar, according to our research, but popped back up again in April of 2021.

Roberts was arrested by Russell County Sheriffs Office on the charge of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). He was arrested on April 14th of this year.

Roberts is now officially behind Columbus bars again after the shooting rampage. He is charged with 4 counts of aggravated assault, 2 counts of possession of a firearm while in commission of a crime, 2 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and 1 count of theft by receiving stolen property. Those charges are just for Columbus; Phenix City has yet to announce there charges.
