An officer involved shooting has occurred Wednesday afternoon in Columbus, Georgia.
A deadly officer-involved shooting has left a suspect dead and an officer in stable condition in Columbus.
Police responded to a domestic call 7 minutes after 2 P.M. at the intersection of Young Avenue and 43rd street near Earline Avenue when a suspect fired multiple shots. An on-foot chase began, which led to the suspect turning around, pointing a weapon, and firing a shot which sent a Columbus police officer to a nearby hospital. During the shooting, the police officer also fired a shot striking, and killing the subject on the scene, Columbus Police Chief Freddie Blackmon confirmed in a press conference.
During the call for officer assistance, a police officer struck a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Manchester Expressway, which left the police officer also being sent to the hospital.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents, along with Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Dustin Harrelson is on the scene.
