As the football season kicks off and temperatures soar, it's critical to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes!

☀️ Heat-related illnesses can be dangerous — even deadly. Here’s how we can stay safe:

💧 Hydrate Early & Often:

Water isn’t just for game day. Athletes should start hydrating the day before practice or games. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty!

⚡️ Replenish Electrolytes:

Water is key, but electrolytes matter too. Add them through sports drinks or balanced meals with salt, potassium, and magnesium.

🚨 Know the Symptoms:

Educate athletes on signs of heat stress:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Muscle cramps
  • Nausea
  • Confusion
  • Rapid heartbeat

🛑 Coaches: Do a Risk Assessment

Use temperature & humidity data to set up a work/rest cycle. Build in shaded breaks, cooling stations, and watch closely for red flags.

🗣 Communication is Safety.

Athletes — speak up if you don’t feel right.

Coaches — listen and respond fast.

Parents — reinforce hydration at home.

Heat can’t be ignored. Let’s protect our players and make this season a safe and strong one. 💪🏽
