After she graduates high school, she will be attending the University of New Orleans, where she plans to major in studio arts, pursuing a passion for creativity and expression that matches her determination on the basketball court.Mikayla's journey with basketball began in the third grade, and she’s been dedicated to the game ever since. As a standout player for Hardaway High, she has achieved numerous milestones, including scoring her 1,000th career point on December 15, 2023, a day she’ll never forget. This season, she’s set an ambitious goal: to reach 2,000 career points before she graduates. “It’s a challenge I’m excited to take on,” Mikayla says, showing her drive to make her senior season unforgettable.Beyond her talent for sports, Mikayla is also known for her love of math, her favorite subject. Balancing academics and athletics is no easy task, yet she has always managed to excel in both areas. Looking ahead, she says she will deeply miss her teammates after graduation. “They’re like family to me,” she shares. “Leaving them will be one of the hardest parts.”Mikayla draws inspiration from her older brother, Mykel Williams, who currently plays football for the Georgia Bulldogs. His dedication and achievements fuel her own ambitions, and she’s quick to add a playful challenge: “If I played my brother in a 1-on-1 basketball game, I would win!”The most influential people in her life, though, are her grandmother Pamela Lawson and her dad John Johnson. "My dad is the backbone, and my grandmother is the heart of it all," Mikayla says. Her grandmother has taught her to pursue her dreams, while her dad has always been her biggest supporter. As Mikayla heads to the University of New Orleans, she takes with her not just her talents but the love and support of those closest to her.
